Last night was wild with a thunder and lightening show. Some rain but not enough to put out the fires started by lightening east of us. The weather cleared by morning but the wind came up. Clint arrived with our work orders for 53 departures so we got busy. We were invited to an all staff pot luck lunch at noon at the head Ranger's house. We quit at 11:30 AM and headed over to his place. The wind on the lake was a thrill for the wind surfers.

There was so much food at the potluck! We got to meet all the staff and learn a little more about them. There were almost as many dogs as people there. One family has 4 little boys who were all dressed as cowboys. Another guy is the 1-4th grade teacher in Plain, I think. One of the women is a sub in the Cascade School District in Leavenworth. Chris, the youngest staff person, is 18 years old and already a pro at mechanics, welding and carpentry. His employment is only for the summer so he will be moving on to something else later in the month. Chris and his skills will be sorely missed. Another gal was a botanist so she named the flowers I had seen yesterday at the beach. Conversations were about the coming winter, did folks have their wood in, could you use my splitter for your wood pile, how old is your dog, what are you driving now and more dog stories. We had a good time and certainly didn't need any dinner.

High energy but cute!
We got back to our chores around 3 PM. The campground is pretty quiet with only 10 camp sites in use. We did find a bat (the flying kind) in the underbrush, perfectly preserved. I saved him for the Science table at one of my after school sites. The wind continued but not as strong as on the lake. It kept us cool while we worked.
This is a little bat. Hard to see the details but he has some very sharp teeth for sure.
This dragon fly was completely in tact. I hope I can get him home that way for the Science table.
Ranger Mike's yard art. I told him he needed a blue bottle tree to accent his sculptures.
Bob has a few more new toys. A blue tooth ear piece, 2 Army men, a ball and a pony.
