The Sunday Exit

We cleaned 40 of the 60 campsites that departed today. 20-25 to do tomorrow. Sonny may even get in some golf in the afternoon.  It was a little faster today since the burn ban prevented campfires which meant Sonny didn't have to shovel fire pits.  The weather has been cool in the morning but warming up comfortably in the afternoon.

Camper challenges today included the guy who insisted that he paid for his site but got a warning on his windshield to pay up for the extra night.  He grilled us, telling how he paid, who he paid and even what currency he used but we don't have any knowledge of what he was talking about.  We tried to refer him to a person at the front store.  The next time we saw him, he was mad we didn't tell him the store was unmanned when he went there.  (He didn't ask us what the hours were!). He tried talking to one of the maintenance guys and finally, the Ranger showed up.  Sonny was dying to ask the guy if he learned his lesson of keeping the receipt when making cash payments but he kept his mouth shut.

People were quite frustrated that they couldn't have campfires. The mornings are chilly and at night, people are pretty wedded to having s'mores and roasting hot dogs when they go camping (in their 30' RVs).  One campsite sent a different person to us 3 times today asking if the burn ban was still on?  When will it be lifted? Are we in danger of having to leave?  Can we use charcoal? How will we make s'mores? I guess they were hoping we would have an in with the Governor and the ban could be lifted for Lake Wenatchee.  We told them to use the microwave for s'mores.  It does work if timed carefully.

Bob's collection of toys now includes an Elvis Presley lighter, a pink sparkly bobbie pin, a plastic camo egg and the return of the dinosaur that we gave to the campground builders, Matt and Sam.

After relaxing for a few minutes and then showers, we drove into Leavenworth.  The high peaks around are smoke covered and in Leavenworth, some are out of sight totally.  We haven't heard any news of the fires today other than the air quality in Cashmere and Wenatchee is beyond hazardous to health.

The vine maples are stunning with their red leaves against the green.

Holding the dumpster open (with my head) while emptying the litter bucket. Dust mask is a must when raking the sites.

Looking West from the Leavenworth Safeway parking lot.

Smoke is hiding the mountains all around.

Sunset behind the mountains.
